UGC Criteria for Appointment of Direct Associate Professor 

The candidate should have a good academic record with a PhD degree in the relevant, related, or concerned discipline 

A candidate must have a Master's degree with at least 55% of the possible points or a comparable grade 

The candidate must have a minimum of eight years of teaching or research experience in a role equating to that of an assistant professor 

Evidence of published work in the form of at least 5 books, research/policy papers, or other types of publication

The candidate has to design new curricula and courses and implement technology-mediated innovation in education 

A candidate must guide doctorate candidates and research students in the teaching and learning process 

A minimum score as outlined in the Performance-Based Appraisal System, which is based on the Academic Performance Indicator (API)
